Ferrero is produced by     AB-Fortis^® patented microencapsulation technology, which provides highly stable encapsulation preventing release of free iron in the food matrix. Ferrero is a microencapsulated form of Ferric saccharate. The  microcapsules are produced by ionotropic gelation of alginate with calcium, entrapping the iron salt inside. Calcium displays a strong interaction with alginate, stabilizing the microcapsules and avoiding the release of iron. Iron is an important mineral required for a number of essential cell functions, yet iron deficiency is still the most prevalent micronutrient deficiency in the world today. Ferrero has a uniform and defined iron dosage of around 40% of iron by weight, which is constant among batches. Another crucial advantage of Ferrero is the minimal release of iron from the microcapsules during its storage and after the combination in supplements or other applications. The microencapsulation prevents the classical side effects of other iron supplements
